Learning Differences Specialist

Provide support to children with learning differences through inclusive engagements and experiences designed to support them to fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop Individualised Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. Work in self- contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

Qualifications


Education/Certification :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid teaching certificates with required Special Education or Psychology endorsements
  • Demonstrated competency in understanding of neurodiversity

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of neurodiversity
  • Knowledge of practical insights on learning dierences
  • Fluency and competency in spoken and written English Language
  • Individualised Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation of an emergent curriculum and instruction


Facilitation Strategies :

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of the team to develop an IEP
  • Implement an emergent, therapeutic and skill development programme using a multi-sensory approach
  • Plan and use appropriate facilitation and learning strategies, engagements, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning temperaments & styles and needs of students assigned


  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for engagements
  • Employ a variety of ways to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned
  • Discuss student progress with parents, other teachers, counsellors, and administrators
  • Use technology in the teaching/learning process as and when needed


  • Be a positive role model for students - support the inclusive education mission of Learning Matters
  • Be organized with materials for engagements
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as and when required


  • Maintain a cheerful, nurturing healthy, safe & child-centred classroom environment
  • Maintain attendance, absentees and injury records
  • Maintain storage, organisation, and cleanliness of equipment and materials
  • Provide support for classroom supplies


  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, the Director of School Success, Pedagogista, and Leadership Team, including all concerns regarding a child’s progress
  • Maintain a professional relationship with co-educators, students, parents, and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  • Observe growth and development of each child and communicate with parents and the Director of School Success through internal documentation processes
  • Work with the teaching team on problem-solving and school challenges as needed.


  • Participate in professional development to improve & develop skills
  • Keep informed of and comply with Learning Matters regulations and policies
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerised reports, records, and other documents required
  • Maintain confidentiality


  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s)

  • Professional Development:

  • Work towards increasing knowledge and abilities in the field of neuro divergent education and related topics through attendance at workshops and courses, reading books or periodicals, or other means
  • Weeklong professional development is provided to educators during onboarding


  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment
